Abstract
As part of its goal of ensuring that workers are provided a safe and healthful working environment, the US Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforces a variety of occupational safety regulations, including standards related to laser safety. The following comments summarize a presentation made by the author regarding laser safety requirements enforced by Federal OSHA officials. It is noted that twenty-six states operate their own OSHA-type programs and may have different enforcement priorities and policies. However, state-OSHA standards must be at least as effective (i.e., strict) as Federal standards. As part of its goal of ensuring that workers are provided a safe and healthful working environment, the US Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) enforces a variety of occupational safety regulations, including standards related to laser safety.
