Abstract
The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) became law in 1970. The act now covers more than 60 million workers in more than 5 million work places. This article reviews the OSHA standards and basic employer and employee responsibilities and discusses selected impacts on business firms. Regardless of the controversies surrounding OSHA, it is a reality that will continue to affect business operations; thus, managers and businessmen should be alert to changes and interpretations in this new area of regulation.
