Abstract

Recent investigations have shown the occurrence of nonstandardimpulse waveforms on power systems, such as double exponential waves having different front and tail times, linearly rising over voltages, and oscillatory switching impulse voltages (OSIV). This article describes the flashover study of standard disc type insulators, under the application of unidirectional and bidirectional oscillatory switching impulse voltages in normal weather conditions. This helps in understanding the performance of power transmission lines with oscillatory switching impulse voltages.
