Abstract

The usage of series compensation devices on long-distance transmission lines can lead to an oscillatory instability of the electric power system. The application of automatic excitation control of generators has a positive effect on the stability of the system; however, incorrect selection of the control factors can lead to undesirable disturbances in the system. In known research, the effect of only one controlled device on the electric power system stability is usually considered. The objectives of this investigation are to analyze the influence of the choice of a series compensation device control factors and automatic excitation control adjusting parameters on the steady state stability of the electric power system and to obtain a method for joint determination of such values of these parameters when there is no violation of system steady state stability.
