Abstract

This study presents an analysis of laminar motion of an oscillatory flow of second grade fluid under a harmonic pressure gradient in a rectangular duct. Exact solutions are obtained for the velocity profile, phase difference and the corresponding shear stress. In particular, the flow singularities at the boundaries and corners of the duct are taken into account. In comparison to Newtonian fluid, the effects of the retardation time, Deborah number and Reynolds number on the velocity profile, phase difference and shear stress factor are discussed graphically and analytically.
