Abstract
A wheelchair seat designed to prevent the occurrence of decubitus ulcers has been constructed and tested. The rear section of the seating surface is periodically lowered to allow a reduction in pressure for the highly stressed tissue underneath the ischial tuberosities. Several parameters in the seat can be easily adjusted to accommodate the needs of different individuals.
