Abstract

We present a theory for the oscillating instability of the vortex matterexperimentally observed in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 + d crystals. Thebasic framework is a flux dynamics instability in the vicinity of thecoexistence line of the order-disorder vortex phase transition. Atheoretical description of this effect is based on two coupled equations:the Landau-Ginzburg equation for the order parameter of the vortex phasetransition and the diffusion equation for the magnetic induction. Linearstability analysis of these equations reveals an oscillatory instabilitygiving rise to waves and characterized by a period and wavelength that arein accordance with the experimental results.
