Abstract

The aim of present study is to investigate the mechanism of minute deformation behavior, such as nucleation and growth behavior of twin region, around yield point of polycrystalline pure Ti. Firstly, we prepare commercial polycrystalline pure Ti (99.5%) thin plate (Nilaco co.) and fabricate tensile specimens. Secondly, the in-house measurement system integrated with the tensile machine control system, the measurement system of local strain distribution and the source location system of minute deformation is constructed suited on a LabVIEW platform. Thirdly, we attempt to measure macroscopic stress-strain curve, local strain distribution and minute deformation behavior arising in specimens under uniaxial tensile loading. The local strain distribution is measured by digital image correlation (DIC) and the source location of minute deformation is conducted on the basis of acoustic emission (AE) technique. Finally, we discuss about the mechanism of minute deformation behavior around yield point of polycrystalline pure Ti on the basis of results in present study.
