Abstract

The neutron scattering experiments for material science in Japan has entered a new era, since the world's highest class neutron source based on a proton accelerator, Japan Spallation Neutron Source (JSNS) at Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) has started its operation, while so far, the material research has been performed by using JRR-3 reactor and till lately by KENS (High Energy Accelerator Research Organization Neutron Source). The traditional neutron scattering method, diffraction, is most useful and widely used. The residual stress measurement is one of typical applications. Now, the small angle neutron scattering is considered to be useful to obtain the larger size information. The spectroscopic transmission imaging is now under development, which is expected to give the information on crystal structure, preferred orientation, strain and so on It is strongly desired that Material and Life Science Facility (MLF) including the JSNS is used usefully for the industrial applications.
