Abstract

Institutional repositories (IR) are a tool for the dissemination and preservation of academic production, as part of the open access perspective, whose principle is to allow free and unrestricted access to scientific production. This access encourages the recovery and use of academic production, favoring the impact of work developed by researchers, which is also reflected at the institutional level, contributing to the reform of the scientific communication system. This visibility of intellectual production within higher education institutions (HEI) can be measured by statistical analysis of the volume of document deposits. With reference to the present, this article intends to show, in the scope of a quantitative methodology, the types of documents that are presented in a greater proportion in the IR of each one of the Portuguese public Universities, which make part of CRUP (Council of Rectors of the Portuguese Universities), and to show which Repositories have the highest index of views and downloads.
