Abstract

The aim of the present study was to know how the teaching staff of a higher education institution understands and is related to its scientific repository. A survey questionnaire was sent to teaching staff and we obtained 94 valid answers (19.0%). The questions were about Open Access Movement, knowledge and use of the repository, mandatory policy and willingness to participate in the project. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS. The results show that teaching staff knows about Open Access (OA) Movement and also about the institutional repository. As main institutional impacts they have identified institutional image, visibility and reputation. As main individual impacts they have identified scientific reputation, peer recognition and increased citations. We found also that: 66.0% of the respondents indicated using the repository mainly for scientific research; 80.9% recommend the repository to its students; 69.1% have documents archived in the repository but the mediated deposit is the most used way; 82.7% reported having intention of continuing to deposit in the repository; 66.0% know the mandatory policy. The results suggested a good level of acceptance and recognition of the repository, but training and diffusion of information about the repository are still needed.
