Abstract

Objective: To explore the effects of Helicobacter pylori infection on atherosclerosis in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Design and Method: 228 subjects (Mean age: 67.92 ± 7.51) were enrolled in this study. Whether or not did the patients infected with Hp by 14C-Urea Breath Test (14C-UBT). The participants were divided into infection-positive group and infection-negative group basing on the outcomes of 14C-UBT. Their Carotid-Radial pulse wave velocity(CrPWV) and Carotid intima media thickness(CIMT) were mornitored. Results: Compared with the Hp infection-negative group, the values of CrPWV and CIMT were significantly increased in Hp infection-positive group (11.53 ± 2.31 m/s vs 10.96 ± 2.04 m/s;1.28 ± 0.27 mm vs 1.21 ± 0.22 mm, P < 0. 05). The incidence of Carotid plaque in Hp infection-positive group was higher than in Hp infection-negative group. After obtaining the Logarithm of UBT, CrPWV and CIMT were correlated with the level of LogUBT. Conclusions: The Hp infection-positive patients had emerged atherosclerosis with hypertension and T2DM. CrPWV and CIMT were closely related to the Hp infection in eldly patients.
