Abstract

The Oryctocephalus indicus Zone is proposed based on the FAD and LAD (local range) of the eponymous species in the Hukgyo Formation of the Sinsang-ri section, Hwangju County, North Hwanghae Province. It comprises Oryctocephalus indicus, O. orientalis, O. sp. Pagetia sp., Probowmania sp., Peronopsis rakuroensis and Ptychoparia sp. The FAD of Oryctocephalus indicus was accepted for defining the boundary between Series 2 and the Miaolingian at the Wuliu-Zengjiayan section located at Balang village in Jianghe County, Guizhou, South China. Oryctocephalus indicus from the Hukgyo Formation plays an important role in defining the base of Miaolingian in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).
