Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) in the treatment of end-stage liver disease. Methods Seventy patients with end-stage liver disease underwent liver transplantation of 72 times in the past two years, including one case of child with reduced-size liver transplantation, 37 cases of cirrhosis resulting from hepatitis B, 30 cases of hepatic cancer. Results A total of 72 times of OLT were performed in 70 patients. The perioperative mortality was 25.7?% (18 cases). During the period of follow-up, 14 of the 52 patients died. The occurrence of bile duct complications and hepatic artery complications was 23?% and 20?% respectively after operation. The survival time in 30 cases was over 6 months and in 17 cases over one year. Among the 31 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma, the survival time in 9 cases was over 6 months and in 3 cases over one year after operation. Conclusion The liver transplantation was an effective means in the treatment of end-stage liver diseases. The preoperative status of the recipient, donor liver quality, and technical aspects of the operation are the most critical determinants of early outcome.
