Abstract

Orthopedic custom-made shoes and orthopedic innershoes are indicated when the patient can no longer be helped satisfactorily with simpler orthotic devices, i.e. with foot orthoses and adjustments to the ready-made shoe. The aim is to restore mobility in cases of moderate to severe damage to the bones, ankles, muscles, ligaments or tendons of the foot. The task of an orthopedic shoe fitting is to enable and maintain an appropriate walking function and reduce the symptoms of discomfort when walking and standing; ultimately, to enable participation in public life.In the orthopedic shoe, all functional elements of foot orthoses, the adjustments to the ready-made shoe and the functional replacement of the foot lower leg can be integrated in one aid. Today, the orthopedic shoe can also be manufactured in an appealing design and appearance. The indication for an orthopedic shoe can be given if a need-based supply, for example, with insoles, adjustments to the ready-made shoe or orthoses is not sufficient or possible.
