Abstract
A theoretical and experimental investigation of flocculation kinetics is presented. A mathematical model describing orthokinetic flocculation in a multicompartment reactor with arbitrary flow has been derived. This model shows that the most important factors influencing flocculation performance is the mean turbulent velocity gradient, the residence time and residence time distribution and the floc volume fraction. A nonlinear least square curve fitting computer program was used to investigate the validity of the proposed model.
