Abstract
A simplified orthogonal condition between two types of radiation modes for multilayer structures is presented by using their plane wave expressions, which is dependent on the ratios of amplitudes or relative phases of the fields at the outermost interfaces only, regardless of the number of layers and without detailed knowledge of field distribution inside this structure. It is a universal orthogonal condition, all the previously presented orthogonal conditions are special cases of this condition.
