Abstract

The aim of this second article in this series of two is to outline the treatment-related factors, which are understood to play an important role in orthodontically-induced inflammatory root resorption (OIIRR). This article will highlight the importance of patient assessment, as well as the long-term effects of OIIRR. It will also discuss future developments, which may improve our understanding of the mechanisms of tooth movement and root resorption. Clinical Relevance: The orthodontic practitioner should be aware of the iatrogenic effects of treatment mechanics and the need for detailed patient assessment prior to the start of treatment to reduce harmful consequences.
