Abstract

Universities train personnel who adjust with social life successfully but this is connected with students` quality which come from intermediate instruction with well educated programs. According to this, students who have enough accumulation of knowledge to face with the education at university and make conscious preference with coming in the program will increase the success rate of the universities duties. In this direction, the aim of this study is to designate the students who want to come in an academic program in university by determining which criteria they have to take care, how they are aware of the education that will be given to them and finally the readiness levels of high school students for university education. Also the data obtained from these students compared with the results of the study performed by Ugulu and Aydin for the same purpose and method in 2007. This research is a case study in which embedded single-case design was used. 100 high school students studying at various high schools in Izmir participated in this research. The data have been obtained via semi-structured interviews and were analyzed with the inductive content analysis. The analysis results showed that the readiness levels of high school students for university education is less than expected.
