Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the case of giving verbal feedback to students by Turkish language and Mathematics teachers. For this purpose, special case method, which is one of the qualitative research approach, was used. The research was conducted with a total of 40 teachers (20 Turkish language and 20 Mathematics teachers) who works at Nigde Province central schools in 2013-2014 academic year. The data towards the use of verbal feedback to students by teachers in thestudy group were obtained through direct observasion. Afterwards, the obtained data were analysed on the basis of previously prepared feedback classification and analysing table separately by two different researchers and findings have been tested for reliability and validity. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that in teaching environments when Turkish language teachers often use ecaluative feedback, Mathematics teachers often use descriptive feedback. Based on the study results, the suggestions were provided about what kind of feedback should be given in a classroom environment.
