Abstract

E012 Orphan Basin: Integrated Geophysical Study and Implications For Atlantic Conjugate Margins Summary: 1 A regional integrated geophysical study was performed on the Orphan Basin offshore Newfoundland to help establish its tectonic and stratigraphic evolution and relationships to conjugate margin basins. Two distinct sedimentary basin groups interconnected during their main rifting stages were identified. An Early Mesozoic narrow rift trend contains the Jeanne d’Arc East Orphan and Porcupine basins whereas the broad West Orphan and Rockall basins share a common mid-late Mesozoic evolution. Prior to mid Cretaceous continental drift all these basins were linked. Detailed seismic mapping well correlation and
