Abstract

Abstract Kinnunen, U. 1988. Origins of teacher stress at different points of the autumn term. Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research 32, 153‐162. The study tested a regression model of teacher stress through the use of LISREL models at six selected points of time over an autumn term in a group of 142 teachers. The stressors, mainly social relations variables, accounted for 16‐30% of the variance in self‐reported stress at different points of the autumn term. Home relations had a significant effect on teacher stress on every measurement occasion. In addition, home atmosphere had a true predictive value in explaining stress over time, from the beginning to the end of the term. Besides this stable origin of stress, there were those origins which changed over the autumn term. At the beginning of the term the quality of colleague relations proved to have a significant influence on teacher stress.
