Abstract

Generally we use the “Krypton-85” method for wear test of the tools in plastic industry. For deeper wear processes the surface activation technique was applied. In this technique the material tested is bombarded with charged particles which induce nuclear reactions, i.e. produce isotopes. The penetration of these particles mainly depends on the bombarding energy and the target material and so does the activated layer too. There is always need for calibration in order to get information about the activity distribution against deepness. The autoradiography is a good help for calibration. In our studies we demonstrated and evaluated the deepness distribution of the activated layer in steel in case of proton activation in a 10 MeV cyclotron.
