Abstract

It is hypothesized that the linear lunar Mare Frigoris originated by the separation, as opposed to the foundering, of blocks of terra-type crust. A computer analysis of possible block motions indicates that an “initial distribution” of blocks may be postulated which both permits the present distribution to be derived by simple translations, and accounts adequately for certain currently discernible morphological inconsistencies.
