Abstract

This study of cobble- and boulder-sized clast orientations in pocket beaches indicates that the L-I planes dip seaward at angles steeper than the foreshore slope and that the modal dip direction is generally not perpendicular to the shoreline trend. L-axes are oriented parallel, perpendicular, and at about 45° to the beach trend. Shoreline trends based on orientation data may be estimated incorrectly by as much as 30° because of wave refraction.
