Abstract

The orientation dependence of corrosion resistances of Ti35 alloy in 6 mol/L boiling nitric acid solution was quantitatively investigated through designing specific volume fraction of crystalline planes. Electrochemical and immersion corrosion tests showed that prismatic texture of Ti35 alloy with {101¯0} and {112¯0} planes exhibited excellent corrosion resistance compared with that of basal texture of {0001} planes. The corrosion rate and corrosion current density of Ti35 alloy with {101¯0} and {112¯0} planes were 0.049 mm/y and 53.45 µA·cm−2, correspondingly. A formula was proposed to evaluate the correlation between corrosion thermodynamics of Ti35 alloy and its crystallographic characteristics.
