Abstract

A newly developed Oriental × Trumpet (OT) intersectional hybrid lily cultivar entitled ‘Big Bang’ possessing high growth rates and strong levels of resistance to leaf burn and Botrytis was created at the Flower Research Institute of Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services in the calendar year 2018. In the year 2010, the yellow-flowered female parent Lilium OT hybrid ‘Biarits’ was crossed with the white-flowered male parent L. Oriental hybrid ‘O11-149’ utilizing a cut style pollination method (CSM) for breeding purposes. Adaptation trials were carried out upon the candidate line in order to develop various characteristics via seed culture in vitro, multiplication, and seedlings from 2011 to 2013. The first selection was chosen in 2014, and the line was tentatively dubbed ‘OT14-6’. The present study compared the flowering characteristics, bulb production, external shape type, and growth with those of ‘Nymph’ from the calendar years 2016 to 2018. Consumer pref erence f or the evaluated characteristics was surveyed over the course of a l ily flower show that took place at the Flower Research Institute in the year 2016, and a second selection, dubbed ‘Chungnam OT-7’, was chosen according to results from the show. The chosen line was registered as the OT hybrid ‘Big Bang’ in the year 2018. The natural flowering time of ‘Big Bang’ initiated during June 16th, which was akin to ‘Nymph’ at the central district. The plant height of ‘Big Bang’ measured 155.3 cm, the flowers were a double color (white-red) of red spots, and of the upward blooming type. Bulbs required careful employment of general cultivation techniques, including controlling diseases and insects, alongside nutrient and moisture management.
