Abstract

The type specimens of the Oriental and Eastern Palaearctic Aphrophoridae described by Matsumura were examined and the following nomenclatural and taxonomic changes are made. Thirty genera described by Matsumura (1940a, 1942) are synonymised. With Amarusa Walker, 1857: Okiptyelus; With Aphrophora Germar, 1821: Awaphora, Nagafukia, Macrofukia, Miphora, Nagophora, Boniphora, Formophora, Hosophora, Ogaphora, Sabphora, Sagophora, Seiphora, Tamaphora, Tonkaephora, and Tukaphora; With Ariptyelus Matsumura, 1940a: Toroptyelus; With Clovia Stål, 1866: Betaclovia; With Peuceptyelus Sahlberg, 1871: Jembropsis, Kitaptyelus, Eguptyelus, Futaptyelus, Iwaptyelus, Kageptyelus, Maptyelus, Koreptyelus, Mimoptyelus, Oiptyelus, Sappoptyelus, and Nikkoptyelus. Ten previously recognised generic synonymies of Aphrophora are confirmed. Fifty-two new or reinstated specific combinations are established to follow the generic changes. Thirty-three new specific synonymies are also proposed.
