Abstract

Abstract The template condensation reaction of diethylenetriamine with glyoxal or biacetyl using dialkyltin(IV) dichloride and divalent transition metal ions resulted in the formation of a new series of hetero-binuclear hexaazamacrocyclic complexes R2SnMLX2 where L = L1, L2, L3, L4; R = CH3, C2H5, M = Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II); × = Cl or NO3. The structure and bonding of these macrocyclic ligands have been studied by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, EPR and electronic spectral studies, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductance data. The coordination geometry around the metal ions is octahedral in all complexes and each metal ion is coordinated to the imine nitrogen and the bridging nitrogen of the diethylenetriamine moiety.
