Abstract

Schiff bases were versatile compounds synthesized from the condensation of a primary amino compound with aldehydes or ketones and widely used for industrial purposes and also exhibit catalytic oxidation in the oxidation of organic compounds and polymers. Oxidation reactions (oxidation of alkanes, alcohols, epoxidation of alkenes and sulfoxidation etc.) of organic compounds were the most relevant ones and were reviewed considering the recent advances in the last years. Recent researches of Schiff bases and their complexes in oxidation catalysis had focused on employing metal catalyzed oxidation of organic compounds. This review summarizes the developments in the last decade for oxidation of organic substrates and polymers that proceed through Schiff base complexes.
