Abstract

Semibullvalene reacts with diiron enneacarbonyl to give four iron carbonyl complexes, C 8H 8Fe 2(CO) 8 (XI) possessing an intact semibullvalene skeleton, C 8H 8Fe(CO) 3 (XII) and C 8H 8Fe 2(CO) 7 (XIII) resulting from a cleavage of the cyclopropane ring, and C 8H 6Fe 2(CO) 6, formed by further skeletal rearrangement of XIII.
