Abstract

ORGANOCHLORINE pesticide residues, together with polychlorinated biphenyl compounds of industrial origin, occur in many forms of life in the marine ecosystem. These compounds are concentrated through progressive trophic levels until relatively high levels accumulate in lipid-rich tissues of predatory seals, toothed whales and sea birds1–3.
