Abstract

Asch and Mulligan explain the importance of organizational resilience, based in particular on Mulligan's experience with the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Resilience leads to the ability to deal with stress, to proactivity instead of reactivity, as well as productivity and ways to contend with organizational disruption. It touches on such areas as connections, commitments, and communication. In this environment, leaders should be humble, supportive, and focused on bringing out the best in the people they lead, because “employees who feel respected are all around happier with their jobs and generate more productivity than those who do not feel respected by their bosses.”
