Abstract

In virtual work, organizational context and climate may affect employee well-being and performance in various ways. Research on this topic has accumulated over the past decades, but yet, a higher level integration of the findings is needed. This chapter reviews the literature on the contextual influences, such as place, space, and configuration of workers, as well as people management practices, including policies, norms and climate and their effects on employees in virtual work. Based on our review, we propose an agenda for future research and discuss practical implications for improving organizational context and human resources practices for virtual and hybrid work.
