Abstract
Academy of Management Annual Meeting Proceedings includes abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the annual conference, plus 6-page abridged versions of the “Best Papers” accepted for inclusion in the program (approximately 10%). Papers published in the Proceedings are abridged because presenting papers at their full length could preclude subsequent journal publication. Please contact the author(s) directly for the full papers. The symposium Revisioning Organization Design Theory: Alternative Perspectives, offers new perspectives on organization design, building upon the dominant information processing perspective to suggest that organization design can play a more transformative role in organizations by supporting the development of communication, relationships and shared meanings among organizational participants. The panel symposium Historical Research: A Method for Today, brings researchers together to discuss historical research as a useful method to develop theory in the field of organizational information systems. The symposium Leaders and Their Social Networks: An Alternative Approach to Leadership Research, draws upon social network theory and methods to explore how the social networks of leaders and subordinates influence their own performance and the performance of their work units. The presenter symposium Distributed Knowledge Integration in Technology Management, highlights research on a specific aspect of knowledge management. The symposium Surveillance, Awareness, and Correctedness: New Forms of Presence in Wired and Wireless Workplaces, addresses questions of how practices that make use of virtual presence affect employees' work lives, attitudes, cognition and performance.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Vol. 2003, No. 1 Permissions Metrics in the past 12 months History Published online 13 December 2017 Published in print 1 August 2003 InformationCopyright of Academy of Management Journal is the property of Academy of Management and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder’s express written permission.
