Abstract

Introduction: The disease process affects not only separate organs or systems, but the whole organism and leads to a deficiency in amino acids, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and other nutrients. Energy and building materials needed for recovery of the patient are supplied through therapeutic feeding. In order to increase the efficiency of therapeutic feeding, it is necessary to observe an individual approach to each patient, according to the type, severity, and stage of the disease, as well as to administer the appropriate diet on time. Purpose: To investigate the opinion of patients about the quality, quantity, good looks and timely delivery of the food. Material and methods : Object of the monitoring is the Nephrology ward of Dr. I. Seliminski Hospital, Sliven. The organization of therapeutic feeding has been assessed by a questionnaire. Forty patients were included in the survey. The largest part (33%) were aged between 31 and 40 years. Fifty-five per cent had secondary, 33% - higher, 10% - primary, and 2% - elementary education. The study was conducted between 01 and 29 February 2016. The questionnaire was presented to the patients on the day of hospital discharge. Results : Timely delivery of the food was registered in the ward. Quality and appearance were defined as good. The amount was insufficient for 67% of the patients. Conclusion: Patients were satisfied that their food was being delivered on time, and looked good. They were satisfied with quality. It is necessary though to increase the amount of food provided to the patients.
