Abstract

The observed increase in recent years in the price of fuel derived from petroleum, and tightening environmental regulations have forced manufacturers of marine low-speed engines to focus its efforts on the development of gas diesel engine options on the basis of existing models of marine diesel engines. At the same time there are two fundamentally different approaches to solving this problem. MAN Company established and successfully tested system with direct injection of gas into the combustion chamber under high pressure. An alternative approach is to feed gas into the working space of the engine under low pressure has been developed by Wärtsilä. The article is devoted to the search for new technical solutions that allow to combine advantages and eliminate shortcomings inherent in both schemes of the organization of internal mixture formation.
