Abstract
This article provides an overview of the work carried out for organizing the archival collection of the defunct Spanish Institute of Entomology, attached to the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). This work has been used as a pilot project for implementing the standard classification scheme for CSIC’s historical archives. All the work was carried out in collaboration between researchers and documentation professionals, from the standpoint of the research project to which it belongs and with the intention of making the results available for the scientific community as required. The physical preservation of the documents was improved and their description was included in the automated catalog of the CSIC Libraries and Archives Network. This collection is part of the archives of the National Museum of Natural History (MNCN) and can be consulted through the CSIC archive catalog.

Summary
A mediados del siglo XIX tuvo lugar en España el despegue de la Entomología, disciplina que se ocupa del estudio científico de los insectos artrópodos. Un cambio a destacar fue el producido en 1967 con la inclusión en el IEE del Departamento de Fauna del Suelo y Entomología Aplicada, del Instituto de Edafología y Fisiología Vegetal, también del CSIC, centro que tuvo una relación constante con el IEE por la coincidencia en temas de investigación similares entre sus profesionales. Por una parte, se trataba de un fondo con un volumen razonable de documentación (99 unidades de instalación) en el que estaban representadas las actividades más típicas de una institución científica de este periodo, lo que le hacía ser un buen modelo para la aplicación del sistema de clasificación propuesto. El fondo del IEE queda entonces estructurado en las cinco grandes agrupaciones del cuadro:
