Abstract

Abstract The unexpected formation of the sulfur containing heterocycles (8), (9), (10), (11), (15) and further compounds (3a, b and 12) in several thermo- and photoinduced reactions of derivatives of the 2,2′-dithiodibenzoic acid is reported. The thioxanthone derivative (15) is formed by uv irradiation of the new bis-thiol ester (7a) in a novel type of aromatic photosubstitution reaction. The interesting unknown 1,2-dithiocin derivative (14) is not obtained in this photoreaction of (7a). Some aspects of the mass spectrometric behavior of the bis-thiol ester (7a) are discussed.
