Abstract

AbstractThe reaction of methyl chloride, methyl bromide, methyl iodide, trifluoro‐methyl iodide, ethyl chloride, ethyl bromide, butyl bromide, and phenyl bromide with red phosphorus has been studied under a variety of conditions. In additon, the reaction of white phosphorus with methyl bromide and phenyl bromide is also described. The synthesis and properties of RPX2 (R = CH3, CF3, C2H5, C6H5, C6H5; X = Cl, Br, I) and R2PX (R = CH3, CF3, C6H5; X = Cl, Br) are reported. The reactions of RPX2 and R2PX With sulfur and with dimethylamine are also described.
