Abstract

Social Science & Medicine invites submissions that make connections with organisation studies in the analysis of health policy and management. This interdisciplinary Special Issue aims to promote greater theoretical and empirical integration in the analysis of health policy and management by linking social science and health research with the potential contribution of organisation studies. Reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of Social Science & Medicine, we encourage a pluralist approach. We welcome submissions that address all national contexts as well as cross-national comparisons. Papers can be empirically based, using quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods, or theoretical. Areas for consideration might include: Historically-based literature reviews of the relationship between organisation studies and other social science disciplines in the study of health policy and management. Articles that integrate organisation studies with other social science disciplines to enhance our understanding of health policy and management e.g. submissions that make connections between medical sociology and organisation studies to place the clinical encounter in its context and/or provide a more critical analysis of health policies and management practices. Articles that address the changing organisational context of health care and its impact on the practice of various actors (e.g. healthcare professionals, managers, policy-makers, patients and carers) in the health care arena. The Guest Editors of this Special Issue are Graeme Currie, Robert Dingwall, Justin Waring (University of Nottingham, UK) and Martin Kitchener (Cardiff University, UK) Please contact Graeme.currie@nottingham.ac.uk for any queries regarding the Special Issue. The deadline for submissions is 31st March 2010, and authors should submit online at http://ees.elsevier.com/ssm/.
