Abstract
We report on the investigation of organic interfaces by atomic (AFM) and dynamic force microscopy (DFM). The interaction of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films with solid substrates was tested by AFM revealing the different sticking properties for various LB molecules. Specifically, 2-docosylamino-5-nitropyridine (DCANP) LB films were inspected for their direct use in optical waveguides. The defect concentration within the LB films was found to depend on both ageing and film composition. Poly(ethylene) (PE) polymer films were prepared by different methods. The graphoepitaxial growth of metallic particles on the various polymeric substrates was then observed by non-contact SFM. Ultra-drawn PE films showed to be the most promising candidates for organic/inorganic assemblies due to both their semi-crystalline character and their uniaxial orientation. Bovine Serum Albumine (BSA) proteins were finally adsorbed to functionalized Au surfaces. Dynamic SFM investigations reveal the preferred adsorption to amine terminated substrates.
