Abstract
One-week-old piglets were exposed to corn dust alone or corn dust or corn starch in combination with 33 ppM SO/sub 2/ (no concurrent SO/sub 2/ control) for up to 6 weeks (continuous). Control SO/sub 2/ level was 4.5 ppM. The changes induced were similar to those for SO/sub 2/ alone as determined in a previous experiment. These included: ocular and nasal irritation and metaplasia, loss of cilia, and alteration of cell type in epithelium of turbinates, trachea, and perhaps bronchi.
