Abstract

The biodegradation of poly [(sodium acrylate) -co- (2-cyclohexen-1-one)] [P (SA-CHO)] was studied using the polymer-degrading microbe isolated from activated sludge. High molecular weight fractions of P (SA-CHO) were degraded to the same extent as low molecular weight fractions by the fungal strain, Trichoderma sp. KM 802, which was isolated as a P (SA-CHO) -degrading strain. Furthermore, dimeric to oligomeric sodium acrylate having number average molecular weight (Mn) of 500 and cyclohexanone were easily biodegraded by KM 802.
