Abstract

Pure LiCoPO4 compound was synthesized via sol-gel auto-combustion method using different carboxylic acid precursors. Thermal analyses (TG/DTA) were performed in the temperature domain (200 °C–800 °C) to follow different reaction steps during the crystallization of LiCoPO4 olivine phase. X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements were also used to determine the crystal structure and to investigate the magnetic properties, respectively. The microstructure of both uncoated and C-coated LiCoPO4 were systematically investigated by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. The obtained inverse magnetic susceptibility revealed good accordance with our experimental data. The charge-discharge capacities of the as-prepared LiCoPO4 compounds as positive electrodes were tested in Li-ion batteries. Electrochemical impedance and cycle life tests of LiCoPO4/C composites prepared by tartaric acid combustion route were significantly conducted.
