Abstract

This entry provides an overview of organ donation and relevant communication research on the topic. First, a background on organ donation and transplantation is provided. Following this, three areas of communication research on organ donation are reviewed: (i) barriers/facilitators of organ donor registration; (ii) entertainment media portrayals of organ donation; and (iii) communication campaigns promoting organ donor registration. The entry concludes with a discussion of future directions for health communication research.
