Abstract
The objectives of the present study were to find out some amino acids which can enhancefeeding in juvenile seaperch (Lateolabrax japonicus).Behavioural responses were recordedand analyzed by the aid of VTMAS system(Vides Tracking and Motion Analysis System,Nodlus, the Netherland).Agar blocks each containing one of the testing amino acids wererandomly set at one end of the experimental tank(60×20×30 cm).Pure agar blocks wereset at the other end as control. Results analyzed by statistic comparison reveal that glycine, serine, methionine andtaurine are significantly preferred, and that glutamic acid, histidine, lysine are not preferred. These results suggested that juvenile seaperch are carnivorous teleosts because glycine isthe favourite amino acid in many carnivores while glutamic acid in most herbivores. Thus,it is suggested that differential”sensory tuning”might enhance feeding niche separationamong different species and stages.
