Abstract

Explants of fetal pancreases were grown by the watch-glass method of organ culture. Cultures were incubated in media containing varying levels of glucose ( 160, 500, 1000 mg. 100 ml. ) During the first two days of incubation, high levels of glucose stimulated the release of insulin from cultures derived from normal mothers but not from those derived from diabetic mothers. This effect was not observed after four days of incubation.
