Abstract

Abstract At the present time a new principal triangulation of Great Britain is being carried out by the Ordnance Survey and, as is characteristic of that department's policy of maintaining a high standard in its operations, the most up to date methods are being employed to ensure the greatest possible accuracy in the triangulation survey, together with permanency of the position of the centre marks. In this latter connection a new type of pillar was decided upon and is now being put into use. In special cases the pillar is cut from stone, otherwise the standard pattern is constructed of concrete.
