Abstract

The compounds M xZrS 2 (M = Fe, Co, Ni or Cu; 0 < x ≤ 0.50) and Cu xHfS 2 have been studied by electron diffraction. It has been found that these elements can be intercalated between the layers of ZrS 2. Ordered phases Cu xZrS 2 and Cu xHfS 2 have been observed for the first time and the former compounds have been produced both by vapour transport growth and electrolytic intercalation. Ordered phases have also been observed in Ni xZrS 2. For Co and Fe intercalates only short-range order was detected.
